As a rule, people focus more on their outer beauty than health; they would in fact go to any extent to maintain their outer beauty, even if it costs their health! Believe it or not, most people lose weight not out of health concerns but simply to look good and smart. No wonder then that most of us are attracted to fad diets which promise us quick weight loss! Example of such a fad diet is the ‘low-carb’ diet!
Unless you have been under a rock, you must have heard about the low-carb diet plan. The premise behind this diet is that since carbohydrate is the root cause of weight gain, cutting down on its consumption would help one lose weight. But does this diet really work in real life? In this article I will discuss just that!
Different persons have different weight loss needs; one might want to lose hundreds of pounds while another would rather be happy to lose a few pounds fast! But no matter how many pounds you want to lose, the same rule applies to you as everyone else: you should follow a healthy and nutritious diet plan and more importantly, STICK to it!
Remember that just as a rolling stone gathers no moss, people who jump from one diet to another are rarely able to achieve permanent weight loss!
Back to our main topic: as far as low carb diets are concerned, there are opinions both for and against it.
People who vote for it are of the opinion that carbohydrates cause weight gain; therefore, once you eliminate foods containing carbohydrates, weight loss would become easier! As a matter of fact, it is not hard to identify foods which contain carbohydrates!
Now there are some people who are against low carb diet plan because it allows one to consume as many calories as they want, as long as the source of these calories are not carbohydrate-rich foods. They are of the opinion that calorie is calorie, and that excessive calorie intake would result in weight gain, whether those calories come from carbs or not!
Now let’s move on to what the common people want. The common man wants to lose weight and at the same time continue eating all those delicious junk foods which made him overweight! Since low-carb diet calls for a complete elimination of carbohydrates, this means that you have to stop eating foods such as pasta and bread.
Now most people love these foods and probably cannot live without them! But if you are serious about weight loss, you need to keep in mind that you cannot have your cake and eat it too – meaning, you cannot expect to lose weight while eating carb-rich foods day in and day out!
On another note, there are other delicious foods you can have instead of bread and pasta; how about lean chicken meat? It is high in protein and low on calorie – the perfect food for weight loss aspirants! And you cannot deny the fact that it is tasty as well!
