Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

The question most people ask when their weight loss program is not working is “Why?”
The question is very important and if you ask it, it means that you are realizing that there is something wrong with your plan. You are therefore ready to look at other options and try something different to get the results you desire.
So why can’t you lose weight? Here are 3 possible reasons you may not be losing weight – and some suggestions on what you can do about it.
When your weight loss plan is not working there might be 3 possible reasons for that.
Medical Reasons
It is not the same as saying you have to be overweight as it is in your genes. In fact, even if you have the propensity to gain weight, your genes account for only about 20% of your current weight. So “I am overweight because it is in my genes” is not an excuse any more.
There are, however, other medical reasons that some people have difficult time losing weight. Low thyroid, adrenal exhaustion, insulin resistance and other medical conditions can make losing weight near to impossible.
It is therefore important that before you start your weight loss plan you contact your doctor. Have a full checkup and make sure that there are no health issues that might cause your plan not to work.
It can be very frustrating when you try to lose weight and being unable to do so because of a medical condition. Take care of the medical problem first (if any) and then take care of your weight. In some cases, clearing up your medical condition might cause the weight to go down on its own.
Emotional Eating
Nutritionists estimate that about 75% of overeating is caused by emotions. That is a lot. Eliminating emotional eating is therefore very important if you want your weight loss plan to work.
It is however more difficult than it seems. More and more people are becoming victims to emotional eating. We life in very busy times, we hardly have time to do basic things such as walking our dogs or reading a book. There is simply no time to control our emotions.
Because we can’t control them, our emotions soon or later will explode and to feel better we have an ice-cream with extra chocolate or another highly caloric snack.

Emotions are something we all have. It is important to control them and address them. It is important not only for our weight loss but also for our mental health.
Do not ignore your emotions. If you need to take a break at work – do it. If window shopping makes you feel better, do it and do not let anything stop you.
Control your emotions and you will be happier, more optimistic and your plan to lose weight will surely start working.
Mismatched Weight Loss Plan
The number of ways and programs to choose from is huge. There are plans that focus on a diet, some emphasize the importance of exercising, and other focus on emotional eating.
We are all different and what works for the others will not necessarily work for you. If your plan is not working it might be because of a mismatch between you and your plan.
Try changing your diet plan and see if it helps. If you follow a plan the focuses on a diet and it is not working try to change to exercised focus plan. Take your time, check all the plans and see which one suits you best.
If you feel comfortable with your weight loss plan you will be more successful and you will be losing the weight much faster. Programs that you do not enjoy doing will not work. Review different plans and decide which one to follow.
The above are the three main reasons for your plan not to work. If you are unhappy with your weight loss progress do not give up. Find out why you are not successful and change the plan accordingly. Keep up the hard work, be optimistic and you will get there!

Good Luck!
