2 Easy Ways to Stop Holiday Weight Gain!

Holidays are supposed to provide entrainment, recreation and relaxation. Unfortunately, this is not the case with modern holidays. In this day and age, holidays add an extra burden of stress to an already stressful life. There are several reasons why some people are afraid of holidays:

Reason#1: Excessive expenditure: People often spend (sometimes willingly and sometimes unwillingly) more money than their budget would allow. Result? A mound of debts to be repaid after Christmas is over!

Reason#2: Excessive workload: There are deadlines to maintain, parties to attend, invitations to send, all of which make an individual stressful and confused.

Reason#3: Weight gain: Holiday season is the season of foods – junk foods at that! When the holiday comes, you cannot but indulge yourself in all the delicacies you are offered, even if you don’t want to! When you see all of your peers enjoying themselves, your natural instinct would tell you to join them. The result? Overeating, binge eating, excessive calorie intake, all of which culminate into obesity!

The focus of this article is of course on how to prevent holiday weight gain. If you are like me, you are probably afraid that you would gain some extra pounds by eating those holiday delicacies which seem too hard to resist!

1. Don’t stop your workouts: I don’t know why people stop working out once the holiday season arrives. It is as if the holiday season offers them an excuse to sit idle on the couch and watch television. If you ask them though, they would say that they have no time to workout, or that they are too tired to go to the gym, or that they don’t want to workout, etc.!

Just because it is holiday doesn’t mean that you have got a free ticket to live a sedentary life. And working out doesn’t mean that you have to hit the gym at dawn and iron it out there for four hours straight! Even something as simple as walking or running would help you burn fat and lose weight!

2. Exercise moderation in food intake: Many people avoid eating junk foods throughout the rest of the year in the hope that they would be able to indulge themselves to their heart’s content in the holiday season. This is a bad habit and you would add more pounds this way than lose it!

A better option is NOT to deprive yourself of your favorite foods during the whole year. Once in a while, eat your favorite foods so that your appetite remains somewhat satiated. Then, when the holiday comes, you may eat a little more of your favorite junk goods, but under no circumstances you should gorge on them as if this is the first and last time you would be tasting them!

Another thing you should do is eat in small portions; don’t gorge on a huge turkey at one go! Why not instead eat it over the course of three or four days? That way your weight would remain under control as well as your appetite would be satiated!
